Life Hacks

Some stuff I've discovered over the years that has made life a little easier in some way.

Food

  • Turn the stone off after you've put the pasta in the boiling water!! Bring the water to a boil, put in the pasta, mix it around a bit to get the starch off, then put the lid on the pot, and turn off the burner. Return in ~10 minutes. You can experiment a little with how long you wait for what kind of pasta, but for spaghetti I just set a timer for 10 minutes.

  • Maybe get a rice washy thing? I eat a LOT of rice, but I haaate washing it. I know some people don't try to really make it clear, but like, we don't wash the rice mostly to remove starch... we do it because rice is very heavy metal...heavy! Like, there's quite a lot of ARSENIC hanging out on rice. It's fine if you wash it.. but like, that's why i try to at least get it kinda clear?? But omg it's so tedious and my fingies get cold. So, I started using this.

My water pressure isn't enough to really power it properly but I just swish it around in the sink. It does fly out the top, but my sink is made to get wet, and tbh i'm just lowkey playing with it anyway 😅. But *I* stay dry this way, and it just has taken the tedium out of it, so, worth it. They're like $10-$15 online. I'm not sure what they're called to seperate them from other (open top, strainer on the side) 'rice washing bowls,' so you just put in 'rice washer" or something and scroll til you find it.
  • I mean, it shouldn't really count as a hack, but I'm always amazed at people who make rice without having a rice cooker?? Just, whyyy? These Zojirushi ones sing to you when they're finished, too 💖.

Body

  • You ONLY get the labeled SPF coverage if you put ENOUGH ON! Most people don't. For your face & neck, you should use at least two generous fingers worth! Then same amount per limb and then for the front, then the back of your body. That's about a teaspoon's worth/5mL each, all together about a shotglass worth of sunscreen.
If you don't put this much on, you are NOT getting SPF 30 or 50! (Your sunscreen is at LEAST that much spf, right??)

Remember: Apply 20 minutes before you go outside, and you MUST reapply every 2 hours, or sooner if you towel off, or if you are sweating.
