Summer vacation 2024 to the South Korean islands of Ulleungdo and Dokdo! Ulleungdo is an small island a ~3 hour ferry ride from the east coast of Korea. Dokdo is another ferry ride beyond that, and is uninhabited other than the tiny military base Korea has there to reaffirm ownership, since Dokdo is technically contested between them and Japan.About to get on the 3 hour ferry. My friend and I got SO SICK. It was gruesome. None of the anti-seasickness meds we took first helped. (On the way back I figured out that my ear buds on noise cancellation mode fixed me, though!)Bye bye mainland~BLESSED, BLESSED LAND! I nearly could have cried.Dodong, our home base for the week!Korean pizza is wild. There is always corn and a side of pickles!!Dokdo patbingsu. You'll see Dokdo later. It's contested Korean/Japanese island pair, but Korea has control over it. It's a big patriotic thing. Anyway, by far the best bingsu I've had in Korea! PatBingsu is shaved, sweetened milk-ice, with sweet red beans and other toppings (here, condensed milk, almonds, some 'mixed grains' powder?, and banana). Yum!Dodong is so cute! The water is SO BLUE(-GREEN)!It's not Korea if there aren't cute mascots.If I had a figure of me in 2024 made this is exactly what I'd look like. Heavy small bag with hat and hair clip hanging from it; juggling parasol, phone, and water bottle, switching between sunglasses and regular glasses a lot or trying to balance the sunglasses on top of the regular glasses... etc. Sigh~START Hangnam Coastal Walk pics!START 내수전전망대 Naesujeon Sunrise Observation Deck pics!The tour bus dropped us off part way up the mountain, but we still had quite the 20 minute climb up very steep mountain side in unbelievable heat/humidity. 1000 Korean grandparents zipped passed my friend and I though.
